Jamie is Director of Engineering at Starbucks for the Unified Commerce Platform initiative, a project using Scala, Akka, pure FP and a microservice-based architecture to provide high-availability experiences for Starbucks customers. He previously spent over 4 years working at Typesafe/Lightbend, where he ran global services and presales groups. Jamie is a firm believer that pure FP provides the correctness our application domains require, while tools such as Akka provide the resilience capabilities that types cannot yet express.
